MOVIES TO WATCH TO ENLIGHTEN YOU ABOUT THE AVIATION INDUSTRY

Movies (and novels) have a way of bringing us into the here and now.


Films about aviation are an entertaining approach to getting knowledge about the pioneers of the industry as well as significant events.

Even though you cannot travel right now, with the help of movies, you can still fantasize about different places, foods, and beaches.

 

Are you thinking about pursuing a career in aviation? Do you want to avoid boredom while at home, on vacation, or flying? This article lists old and new films that will entertain and enlighten you.

 

Top Gun (1986) - The Naval Fighter Weapons School is known for producing some of the most skilled pilots in the navy. A hotshot fighter pilot, Maverick, played by Tom Cruise, gets into fights with the other pilots, particularly the level-headed Iceman (Val Kilmer). Maverick is competing for more than just the title of a top combat pilot. He desires Charlotte Blackwood, his flying instructor (Kelly McGillis).

 

Air Force One (1997) - After delivering a speech in Moscow, President James Marshall (Harrison Ford), his family, and his advisors board Air Force One to continue their journey. The values of the President are put to the test when Ivan Korshunov, by Gary Oldman, takes over the

plane.

 

Catch Me If You Can (2002) - Because of his skills as a con artist and a forger, he gained a lot of notoriety: At 17, Frank Abagnale Jr. had already established himself as the most accomplished bank robber in American history. FBI Agent Carl Hanratty, by Tom Hanks, makes several attempts to place Frank under arrest, but he evades capture every time.

 

View from the Top (2003) - A young woman with big aspirations is the protagonist of this comedy film. Donna, played by Gwyneth Paltrow, has a career goal of working as a first-class

flight attendant on foreign flights. On the path to achievement, she encounters more challenges than anticipated.

 

The Aviator (2004) - Howard Hughes, played by

Leonardo DiCaprio is a successful businessman in the aviation industry who is instrumental in TWA's rise to prominence. Hughes is known to struggle in private with both anxiety and despair. The higher he gets, the lower he goes.

 

The Terminal (2004) - Viktor Navorski, played by Tom Hanks, is a tourist from Eastern Europe who arrives at JFK Airport in New York City just as his country is getting involved in a conflict. He can't enter or leave the country because of the war. Viktor falls for a flight attendant (Catherine Zeta-Jones). What is love if Viktor can't be out of the Terminal?

 

Red Eye (2005) - The hotel manager, Lisa Reisert, has an encounter at check-in with the handsome Jackson Rippner,

played by Cillian Murphy. She initially believes their flying side by side was luck, but she quickly learns otherwise as Jackson is planning to kill Janet Napolitano, but to do so, he needs Lisa to change the room number he is staying in. Jackson has taken Lisa's father hostage.

 

Snakes on a Plane (2006) - Neville Flynn (Samuel L. Jackson) is an FBI agent responsible for transporting a witness from Hawaii to Los Angeles. An assassin lets loose venomous serpents to eliminate a witness. It is imperative that Flynn and the terrified

passengers and crew work together to survive.

 

United 93 (2006) - On September 11, 2001, United Airlines Flight 93 and three other planes were taken over by terrorists. The courageous acts of the hostages help with the situation.

 

Amelia (2009) - In the cockpit, Amelia Mary Earhart has the feeling that she is destined for greatness. She accomplished

this feat in 1928, becoming the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. In 1937, Amelia Earhart made an effort to become the first person to fly nonstop around the world.

 

Up in the Air (2009) - Anna Kendrick, a young and recent hire at the company, is instructed by Ryan Bingham, a corporate downsizer (George Clooney). He takes her on a journey to demonstrate the importance of direct interaction. Because of his developing feelings for another frequent flier, Vera Farmiga, he begins to perceive those around him in a new light.

 

Flight (2012) - Whip Whitaker (Denzel Washington) is a pilot for an airline who struggles with substance abuse and alcoholism but maintains perfect flight safety. His plane goes down due to a technical difficulty. The crash landing of the Whip only results in six deaths. Whip's addiction is discovered during the investigation into the accident, even though he has vowed to keep his sobriety after having his world turned upside down.

 

Planes (2013) - Dusty is a plane from a rural area with big-time racing aspirations. Dusty is unable to run fast and has a fear of heights. Dusty can't do what he wants to do without the help of Skipper. Dusty can compete against the reigning champion thanks to Skipper's assistance. As Dusty climbs to higher and higher levels, his fearlessness is put to the test.

 

Non-Stop (2014) - Air Marshal Bill Marks (by Liam Neeson) is an alcoholic who has lost his zeal for his work. He views his employment as a desk job, despite the risks involved. A crisis arises during what was supposed to be his "normal day at the office" in London. If Marks does not transfer $150 million to an offshore account, a passenger will die every 20 minutes.

 

Wild (2014) - Cheryl Strayed was left without hope in the 1990s due to her failed marriage and the passing of her mother. She finally snaps after years of irresponsible behavior and makes a rash choice. Cheryl embarks on a solo journey down the Pacific Crest Trail, relying entirely on her internal motivation and resolve.

 

Sully (2016) - Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger (Tom

Hanks) makes an emergency landing in the Hudson River on January 15, 2009, after his plane collides with a flock of geese. Sullenberger earned the title of a national hero after ensuring the safety of all 155 people on board. As a result of the probe, the well-known pilot's career and reputation are in peril.

 

Neerja (2016) - Neerja joins Pan Am Flight 73. She ensures the safety of the passengers even after terrorists have taken control of the aircraft.

 

The Captain (2019) - When a Chinese airplane takes off, everyone on board dreads as the windshield cracks, the temperature drops, and passengers begin to lose consciousness. The dogged Captain successfully brings the plane down in a safe manner.

 

7500 (2020) - A terrorist attack on an airliner causes the Captain to struggle to maintain control of the aircraft.

 

Horizon Line (2020) - Sara and Jackson take a plane

to attend a friend's wedding on an island. After only a few minutes in the Air, their pilot suddenly has a heart attack, and they have no idea where they are or how to make their landing. The only chance Sara and Jackson have is to outrun the storm closing in on them as they are separated by miles of sea and sky on all sides.

 

Blood Red Sky (2021) - When terrorists take over a transatlantic flight, a seriously ill mother is forced to expose a horrible secret to save her child.
